I visted Humphreys Peak during a 6 week long, 12,000+ mile long road trip. We camped out every night but eight, but camping out the night before we climbed Humphreys Peak was particularly intersting. We arrived to our campsite in the midst of heavy rain. After putting up a screened 12' x 12' dome tent we were able to cook dinner out of the rain.

The next morning we drove to the trail head and set out up the mountain. The scenerey was splinded. Starting out in dense aspen groves, we climbed up above the tree line until we were surround by nothing but jagged volcanic rock. The entire region has a rich history of volcanic activity and every peak that can be seen from the summit was created by volcatnic forces. We lingered on at the summit for quite some time, enjoying the scenery and sheltering from the wind. Tim, in a light T-shirt, was freezing cold from the winds. However he was feeling especially jovial and entertained Ricci and Kyle with his antics the entire way down (most of which he wore a ziplock, now emptied of our lunch, on his head to try and stay warm).
