I have visited Mount Elbert twice, with a successful summit bid the second time around. The first time, we got started too late after driving in from Denver. The second time we barely made it due to afternoon thunderstorms. Although Elbert can be hiked in a day, it is no pushover. At a elevation of 14,433' it is only 60' shorter than Mount Whitney and the second tallest mountain outside of Alaska in the US. Check out both trips!
